Description

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - A Valdosta man remains behind bars after being arrested twice in one week.

The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) say 39-year-old Cody Devon Finniessee, assaulted multiple officers when he was arrested in two sperate misdemeanor incidents from last week.

“Both of these incidents started as misdemeanor offenses, and then once officers attempted to take him into custody his actions increased it to felony offenses. His actions show a repeated pattern of physical resistance with assaultive actions towards our officers. These two encounters show that someone can still be a risk even though they are in handcuffs.”

The first incident occurred on June 17th. Valdosta police responded to a domestic dispute the 2000 block of Baytree road. Arriving officers were told Finniessee took a persons keys and refused to return them. Finniessee ran from officers, resisting arrest. Finniessee injured an officers elbow, and kicked another officer in the face.

In this incident Finniessee was charged with,

  • Two felony charges of obstruction of an officer
  • Misdemeanor charge of obstruction of an officer
  • Misdemeanor theft by taking

The second incident occurred on June 24th where Finniessee was a suspect in a single vehicle crash. VPD officers found a abandoned vehicle crashed into a ditch the 1000 block of west Gordon Street. Witnesses provided a description of the driver that left the area. Finniessee matched that description.

Finniessee was found at the vehicle’s registered owner’s home, where he refused to talk with officers and again resisted arrest. This time police say Finniessee kicked an officer in the knee and spat on them.

In this incident Finniessee was charged with,

  • Felony charge of obstruction of an officer
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Failure to maintain lane

Anyone with information on these cases is asked to call the Valdosta crime tip line at 229-293-3091.
