GEROGIA, (WALB) - Travelers in need of roadside assistance in the Atlanta area will soon have 24/7 coverage from the Georgia department of transportation or GDOT.
Starting on June 1st, GDOT’s H.E.R.O program will provide 24/7 roadside assistance to 400 miles of highways in and around Atlanta.
“Now that we are back to a full staff, thanks to effective recruitment strategies and intensive training, we are committed to patrolling the nearly 400 miles of metro Atlanta roads at all hours to improve public safety, reduce traffic delays and be better prepared for emergencies.”
The H.E.R.O program is mainly responsible for clearing roadways after traffic accidents. The program also offers free roadside assistance to drivers in need. Stranded drivers can get help with,
- Changing tires
- Dead batteries
- Provide coolant as needed
- Provide fuel as needed
The program covers several Georgia highways and interstates including parts of,
- I-75, from exit 212 to exit 283
- I-85, from exit 47 to exit 115
- I-20, from exit 82 to exit 34
- I-285
- I-675
- I-985 to exit 985
- 400 to exit 14
- 78 to exit 9
