MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - Police arrested 27-year-old Donavan Harris in connection to the shooting of Marissa Jones last Friday in Florida.
Jones’ grandmother, Sherra Parisella, says the news of the arrest was a huge relief.
“It was just amazing, we all shouted. It was a glorious moment for us,” Parisella said.
According to the Moultrie Police Department, Donavan Harris is being charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Aggravated Battery. When the arrest was made, Harris was found in Florida at his family’s home.
“Most people don’t stay in the same place where they commit the crime, and we felt like this one had just run. When we found out he had ties to South Florida, we just knew.”
Sherra Parisella credits Harris’ arrest to police work and help from people on Facebook.
“Marrissa has an aunt, her name is Robyn, and this almost broke her when Marissa got shot. So, she said mama I’ve got 3,000 Facebook friends, I can’t wait, I’ve got to do something, and Facebook just worked for us.”
Just two days after the post was made, Harris was arrested, and the family says now it’s time for justice to prevail.
“We are going to be there every step of the way. If it’s, one or 100 we are going to be in that courtroom every time he is.
At this time, Marissa Jones is not able to speak but she wrote on Facebook that she’s a survivor and not a victim.
This is an ongoing investigation, but police believe Harris is the only suspect involved. Harris is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
