COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A routine traffic stop on March 27, led to the arrest of 35-year-old Alvin Lamar Jones III from Brunswick.
According to Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, the stop, initiated for a broken taillight, quickly escalated when detectives uncovered a significant drug stash in Jones’ vehicle.
While investigating the stop, authorities discovered 141 Ecstasy pills and 9 Oxycodone Hydrochloride pills in a backpack inside the vehicle. Jones had been in town visiting Douglas for only a short period, according to detectives.
Jones was arrested and held for 48 hours while warrants were processed. He now faces charges for possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and trafficking of a Schedule I controlled substance. If convicted, Jones could face a prison sentence ranging from 5 to 30 years for a first offense, with subsequent offenses potentially leading to 10 to 40 years in prison.
Sheriff Cole praised the diligent work of the Narcotics Unit, stating, “I appreciate the work our Drug Unit puts in on a daily basis. They are out there doing what it takes to accomplish our mission and that’s to ensure our community is safe.”
