Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Early April continues unseasonably warm and humid. Wednesday Albany set a new record high of 91° which breaks the old record of 90° set in 2017. It was the first 90° temperature for the year. Expect a few more days of near to record temperatures with highs upper 80s low 90s and lows mid-upper 60s.
A strong ridge of high pressure not only keeps very warm/moist air across SGA but also blocks storms from pushing further east. Unfortunately areas from the Plains into the Ohio River Valley areas are bracing for multi-day severe storms including a tornado outbreak.
Look for changes over the weekend as the ridge breaks down allowing a strong cold front to track east. Saturday still dry and very warm upper 80s near 90°. Then on Sunday showers and storms some of which potentially strong to severe move into SGA with rain continuing into Monday. SPC has outlined SGA in a Slight Risk for severe storms. Heavy rain likely with 1-2″+ possible. Check back timing and overall threats.
Early week turns much colder. Highs drop into the 60s and lows into the 40s. Chilly but not expecting a late season freeze otherwise dry through the week.
