Description
PLAINS, Ga. (WTVM) - Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed two executive orders following the passing of former President Jimmy Carter.
The first ordered all flags on state buildings and grounds to be lowered to half-staff from Dec. 29 to Jan. 28.
Second, Gov Kemp declared a state of emergency for Sumter County to direct “all resources of the state to assist with the final farewell and interment of President Carter.”
Carter is a native of Plains, Georgia, a town located within the county.
The executive order also outlines the expected influx of visitors to the area and surrounding communities, the location of Plains and its small size, and the likely need for additional transportation and public safety personnel.
