Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - WALB now has the body camera footage from a Dougherty County Police Officer who says he was forced to shoot a dog. That confrontation came after a call that the dog ate a neighbor’s chickens.
WALB first brought you this story a week ago around Christmas.
A woman who cared for the dog stated she didn’t believe the dog would charge at anyone, and if that happened the community would love to see the video footage.
The Dougherty County Police Department released that video to WALB.
You first see the officer arrive on the scene speaking with someone about the location of the dog. A couple of minutes later, the dog started to walk towards the officer and the officer gave verbal commands telling the dog to “get back.”
After being on scene for 20 minutes, the dog started to charge at the officer resulting in the officer drawing his gun, and shooting and killing the dog.
In the video, you hear the officer fire three shots.
According to the incident report, Dougherty County Animal Control arrived on the scene shortly after the dog was shot— and took over the case.
