ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Construction for the Oglethorpe Bridge will start on Tuesday, June 22.

The city of Albany is reminding drivers that the bridge will be closed to all traffic once construction starts.

GDOT said the contractor is permitted to close the bridge for 365 calendar days, meaning the bridge will reopen on July 22, 2026.

Drivers are asked to prepare for delays and detours.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the detour will be between South Front Street and College Drive.

The state route designated detour is for commercial, freight, and thru traffic. Non-local traffic will be directed to use US 82/US 19/SR 133/SR 3 and SR 91.
