HOUSTON (TND) — A mother and her daughter were tied up in their home after two armed suspects reportedly posed as delivery men for DoorDash.

It happened in a Houston neighborhood Tuesday morning. Police said two young men knocked at the door of a home in the 7100 block of Alderney Drive and rushed the homeowner when she opened the door.

Fortunately, a neighbor saw the freighting ordeal and called 911.

In less than 4 minutes police answered the call for help, according to Houston Chief Noe Diaz.

The woman and her child, under the age of 5, were tied up inside the home when police arrived.

Police entered the scene of a "home invasion" they said was intended to be a burglary.

"A suspect dressed in some sort of hoodie shot at the officers, striking the officer one time in his lower extremities," Diaz said. "The officer returned fire. A second officer went after a second suspect that was inside a home, secured that suspect. He was arrested inside the home. The second suspect was caught nearby - the one that actually shot our police officer."

Police said Michael Perez, 35, was being handcuffed when Raymond Perez, 38, started shooting.

Raymondwas identified as the suspect whose weapon injured Police Officer S. Durfee in the leg.

A third suspect, who police believe was the driver of a getaway car, was arrested after he fled.

Police said 18-year-old Brian A. Garcia Chavez was found several hours later after law enforcement officers, including those with state police, scoured the area.

Chavez was found in the 5800 block of Hollister Road by SWAT team officers and taken into custody without incident.

A family member of the woman who was allegedly held hostage told KHOU that his daughter saw the men holding aDoorDash bag.

The woman reportedly opened the door to tell them they had the wrong house.

Diaz called the responding police officer's work "incredible" after he used a tourniquet to stop his partner's bleeding.

Durfee was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

During a news conference the police chief said the homeowner was safe while praising a neighbor.

I have to thank the neighbor because the homeowner didn't 911 it was the neighbor across the street that saw the two suspects knock on the door and saw them go in. That neighbor thought it was odd, so that neighbor saved the day being neighbors and caring for each other," Diaz said.

Raymond Perez was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
