ABILENE, Texas (KTXS) — A grandmother is heartbroken after an infant's body was discovered inside a tool bag at Texas lake.
KTXS reported that Peyton Sky Davis' body was found by a fisherman at Lake Ft. Phantom Hill inside of a tool bag on August 31.
Peyton’s mother, 20-year-old Heather Kennedy, and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Donald Schultz, were been arrested for tampering with a human corpse.
Tonya Davis, Peyton’s grandmother, told KTXS she will never forgive them for leaving her to grieve the granddaughter she never got to hold in her arms.
It hurts so much that we can’t get to hold her,” Davis said. “We can’t give her the love that we shared for her.
Davis said Peyton’s mother used to regularly video call her so she could see Peyton, but those video calls suddenly stopped with no explanation.
We didn’t know any information,” Davis said. “We didn’t know what was going on until Detective Scott called my son and asked him if Peyton was in his procession. They had the police come down here and search where he was staying at the time.
Days after her son’s home was searched, Davis said the family received the news from they feared the most.
“That’s when he told me, 'Mom it’s her,'” Davis said. “'It’s her. They killed my baby girl.'”
Davis said the news of her granddaughter’s death broke her heart.
“I was like oh my God,” Davis said. “I read the stories and everything. I don’t get to see my girl anymore. I just started crying.”
Now the grieving grandmother is plagued with the question—Why?
“Why not call for help when you noticed she was gone,” Davis asked. “Why did you put her in a shed? Why did you put her in a lake?”
The grandmother is still clinging to hope that she will one day get to hold her grandbaby.
Peyton, we love you so much,” Davis said. “You were our world, and you’re going to be our world no matter what. One day we’ll be with you again and I will get to hold my baby.
Kennedy and Schultz were arrested on September. 13. According to the Abilene Police Department, investigators are continuing to follow up on information, and it is possible other charges will be filed in the future.
Schultz was also charged with a third-degree felony of failure to comply with sex offender registry.
