ATLANTA, Ga. (WALB) – In a historic agricultural breakthrough, Georgia Grown peaches have been successfully exported to Mexico for the first time since 1998.
The announcement was made today by Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, in collaboration with Genuine Georgia and Atlanta-based Reveam.
According to the release, for nearly three decades, Mexico had banned southeastern U.S. peaches due to pest-related import restrictions. That barrier was lifted thanks to Reveam’s USDA-approved Electronic Cold-Pasteurization (ECP) technology, which made it possible to meet Mexico’s strict phytosanitary standards.
As a result, 42,000 pounds of Georgia peaches were shipped to Mexico, marking a major step forward in expanding international markets for Georgia farmers and reducing trade barriers.
“This is a win for Georgia agriculture and a promising sign for future global partnerships,” said Commissioner Harper.
