Description
GEORGIA (WALB) - Several former GOP officials and government attorneys are urging the Department of Justice to investigate Elon musk’s one-million-dollar sweepstakes.
The x owner and Tesla C.E.O has already started giving away one million dollars to registered voters in battleground states.
Musk says voters in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Carolina who sign his political action committee’s petition are eligible for the daily prize.
In a letter to the DOJ, officials warned that this new tactic could be illegal.
For clarification, federal law prohibits anyone paying people to register to vote.
The department of justice confirms it received the letter but has declined to comment further.
CNN reports that Musk, the richest man in the world, has given more than $75 million to his pro-Trump super PAC, and said he hopes the sweepstakes will boost registration among Trump voters.
He recently hit the campaign trail in Pennsylvania, holding events advocating for Trump, promoting his petition and spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
