WASHINGTON (TNND) — Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is expected to meet with Ghislaine Maxwell on Thursday after the Department of Justice (DOJ) said it reached out earlier this week to see what she knows about disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
People familiar with the meeting confirmed the news to CNN.
Maxwell, the ex-girlfriend of Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for child sex trafficking.
Blanche said in a statement on Tuesday that if "Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say."
This news comes after a federal judge in Florida denied a request from the Trump administration on Wednesday to unseal the grand jury transcripts related to the Epstein investigation, according to a public order.
The House Oversight Committee also issued a subpoena to Maxwell for a deposition scheduled on August 11. It will take place at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee.
In a statement, Committee Chair James Comer said, “The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr. Epstein’s cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny.”
The DOJ continues to face pressure after releasing a July 6 memo concluding that Epstein killed himself in prison and didn't have a client list.
President Donald Trump called out Republicans earlier this month for buying into the "bullsh*t" of the Jeffrey Epstein "hoax."
He later switched gears and ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release Grand Jury testimony from the Epstein case after The Wall Street Journal reported Trump was included in a booklet of vulgar letters sent to Epstein for his birthday.
The president said that "based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein," he asked Bondi to produce "any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval."
Trump denied he wrote the letter and filed a libel lawsuit against WSJ.
The president was also reportedly informed in May by the DOJ that his name was mentioned in the Epstein files, according to WSJ.
Citing senior administration officials, the media outlet on Wednesday said Bondi and her deputy met with the president for a meeting at the White House, where they told him his name appeared "multiple times" in the files, along with several other high-profile figures.
