Description

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (WKRC) - Authorities described an American muscle car as "a missile going down the interstate" after the driver was arrested for "extreme speeding."

According to WTVT, 20-year-old Octavius Hunt was taken into custody after a Dodge Challenger was clocked going 155 mph in a 60 mph zone at around 1 a.m. on an interstate in Seminole County, Florida.

The outlet reported that Hunt was safely pulled over after patrol cruisers took positions in front and behind of Hunt's Dodge.

After pulling over, Hunt told troopers that he believed he was only going about 80 mph while on his way to a friend's house, WTVT reported. Authorities said there were three passengers inside the vehicle at the time, adding that the patrol believes Hunt was showing off the Challenger's capabilities.

No one was injured in the incident, per WTVT.

"Ninety-five over the posted speed limit, that is a missile going down the interstate system, and it can kill someone," Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Tara Crescenzi told reporters with WTVT. "It is so dangerous to be driving that fast, not only because of the new law change and potentially facing jail time, but also the consequences of if you were involved in a crash."

Authorities confirmed in a post to social media that Hunt was arrested and the Challenger was impounded for thirty days.

"Putting lives at risk to impress others is dangerous and criminal," the post reads.

According to the outlet, Hunt now faces up to 30 days behind bars and a $500 fine.

His arrest comes after the State of Florida enacted laws against extreme speeding, which target drivers who exceed 100 mph or go 50 mph or more over the posted speed limit, according to WTVT.

Authorities have urged parents to talk to their children about the consequences of extreme speeding.
