SPARTANBURG COUNTY, Ga. (TNND) — A couple and their 9-year-old daughter were found dead inside their South Carolina home, prompting an investigation by local authorities.
Sheriff's deputies reported that the three individuals were discovered dead at their residence on Marilyn Perry Lane, a street in Spartanburg County, Friday morning after they received a call from a concerned neighbor.
Authorities did not disclose how the family died.
"At this initial stage, this agency doesn't feel like there is any threat to the public," read a news release posted on the agency's Facebook page.
However, others who lived at the home on Marilyn Perry Lane were in school when the "incident" happened. The sheriff’s office also made a public appeal for compassion in how the case is covered, both in the media and on social media.
According to the sheriff's department, there was an initial language barrier, but once that was sorted, deputies entered the residence where they found three deceased individuals.
The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office identified the decedent as 54-year-old Richard Samarel, 45-year-old Lina Maria Samarel and 9-year-old Samantha Samarel.
Richard Samarel's Facebook page states that he once worked as a manager for Bloomberg LP. His wife's Facebook page said she was originally from Colombia and previously worked for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Homes in the area, located on Marilyn Perry Lane, are valued starting at $700,000, according to Zillow listings.
The investigation is ongoing, with both the sheriff's office and the coroner’s office working together to determine the cause of death.
