RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Another healthcare facility in Randolph County is shutting down, creating more challenges for families in rural Southwest Georgia.

Fellowship Home at Cotton Hill was once a place where seniors would call home. They would come to relax and enjoy all of the amenities that this facility has to offer. Now, things are about to change as this facility is shutting down due to a lack of resources in rural South Georgia.
“I’m sad because it’s closing. If you need assisted living, this is a good place,” said resident Janice Temples.

The Assisted Living facility is shutting their doors after operating for eight years. Director of the home, Megan Folds, said the facility is not making enough money to provide a good quality of life to the seniors who live there, and they don’t have community involvement to help keep their doors open.
“We don’t have the volunteers coming out. They have them at the nursing home, but we don’t have them here. It’s like they don’t even know we exist. So, it’s a lack of community involvement, it really is,” Folds said. “The residents are upset because this was home. That’s what they’re used to, and now, their families have to travel to see them, and they won’t see them that often.”
The senior facility said they are assisting residents with relocating, but the nearest facility is in Cordele. Residents who did not want to move away from their families are now faced with the reality of living alone again.
WALB asked the residents what they thought about living independently.
“I’m okay. I’ll get one of those panic buttons, and I’m actually kind of excited to be on my own again. And I’m most excited about having a full-sized kitchen,” said resident Debbie Martin.

The facility offered $500 to the residents to help them with moving expenses. Seniors said the generosity of the facility is one of the things they’ll miss.
“They were always very kind and helped you when you needed it. The jokes were bad, but it’s been nice being here,” said Temples.
The facility will turn into housing for Andrew College’s growing student population - specifically for their baseball team.
