ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Dougherty County School System is supplying free meals to anyone 18 and under this summer, no matter what county they live in, through it’s Seamless Summer Meal Program.

Breakfast and lunch are being provided at three high schools in the county until June 28. Those locations are Dougherty High School located at 1800 Pearce Avenue, Monroe High School located at 900 Lippitt Drive and Westover High School located at 2600 Partridge Lane.

Breakfast is being served from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch is being served from 11:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The hot and cold meals are open to anyone 18 and under, and must be consumed on-site.

Leaders say this feeding program is important as people from surrounding counties are allowed to take advantage of the free meals.

“We chose three high schools to try and hit different areas in Dougherty County to make sure that the students are provided a meal,” Shantel Strozier, Director of Nutrition Services for Dougherty County School System, said. “It’s very important that they are provided breakfast and lunch. So we’ll provide two meals every day, Monday through Friday, at no cost.”

Leaders say on day two of the program, they fed around 3,000 students for breakfast and nearly 2,500 students for lunch.

Again, you do not have to live in Dougherty County to take advantage of the free meals.
