DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) — A man wanted on several charges was taken into custody by the Dawson Police Department (DPD) Monday, June 29, after his vehicle was spotted on the department’s Flock Safety camera system, according to a press release.

The man, Camry May, was recently released from prison, DPD said. Officials said that since his release, investigators have come to believe that May committed several other violent felony offenses in Dawson. May was charged with the following, according to DPD:

• Two counts of Aggravated Assault
• Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
• Participation in Criminal Street Gang Activity
• Felony Probation Violation

The police department said it got a notification Monday at about 6:30 p.m. that May’s gray 2016 Honda Accord had entered Dawson’s city limits.

Police said they located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Georgia Avenue. Then, May drove into the yard of a residence nearby, exited the Honda and ran into the residence, according to DPD.

DPD said that officers and Terrell County Sheriff’s deputies were eventually able to successfully negotiate May’s surrender. He was then taken into custody, DPD said.

Officials said the investigation remains active. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated, according to the press release.
