SOUTH GEORGIA (WALB) — Two massive wildfires that sparked in April are now fully contained, state leaders said.
The Pineland Road Fire and the Highway 82 Fire are both 100% contained. The two fires burned over 50,000 acres of land and cost the state over $35 million in suppression and response efforts.
State leaders called this the end of a historic wildfire response.
State leaders stressed that containment does not erase the damage families and businesses have faced.
