Pyle’s Chicken Delight is on a roll. Owner Gordon Pyle says the longtime community staple recently earned a perfect 100 on its latest food service inspection—marking the restaurant’s eighth straight 100.
Pyle, who has worked in the restaurant industry for about 35 years, bought the business with his wife and co-owner, Kristen, about four years ago after the restaurant—known in the community for more than 50 years—went up for sale.
“My dream and her dream was always to start a restaurant,” Pyle said.
Since taking over, the couple has watched the customer base grow dramatically from roughly 50 guests a day in the beginning to about 400 now. Pyle credits more than just the food.
“I think they love the connection with us and we love the connection with them as well,” he said, describing regulars they know by name and families they’ve watched grow over time.
That same focus on people extends to cleanliness and food safety. Pyle said perfect inspection scores take daily effort and full staff buy-in.
“It’s one thing that everybody has to be on board with,” he said, adding that explaining the “why” behind each procedure helps the team stay consistent.
The restaurant typically has 12 to 15 employees, and Pyle said the routine starts early—sometimes around 2 a.m.—and includes ongoing checks throughout the day, from sanitation to monitoring cooler temperatures.
While the name highlights chicken, Pyle says that chicken (aside from tenders) accounts for only about 20% of what they sell. The menu includes breakfast items such as pancakes, French toast, breakfast burritos and chorizo, along with a rotating selection of desserts baked by Kristen. The restaurant also serves seafood daily—especially popular on Fridays—and keeps seafood prep separate as an added safety measure.

Pyle’s Chicken Delight also offers catering for everything from school teams to weddings and local business events, and Pyle says that part of the business continues to grow.
