Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On August 26, 1918, legendary NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson was born in West Virginia.
Johnson’s brilliance was clear from a young age. She was already attending high school by the time she was 13 years old.
She was hired by NASA in 1953 and started working on astronaut John Glenn’s orbital mission in 1962.
That’s the project that skyrocketed Johnson’s fame, at least for younger generations.
The film “Hidden Figures” that was released in 2016 is based on Johnson’s story working on calculations for Glenn’s orbit.
With that, her legacy will live on for generations to come!
