Description

MACON, Ga. (WPGA) - Calls of an active shooter at Central Georgia Technical College’s campus in Macon were found to be a hoax, deputies say.

The campus lifted its lockdown and shelter-in-place order at around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, about an hour after the investigation started.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Christopher Williams said deputies swept the college, but didn’t find any danger.

A similar call was made about Rutland High School, which is about five miles southwest of the college. Law enforcement assessed the scene, but there was no evidence of a shooter, according to Williams.

Now, investigators are working to learn who made the calls.

The false alarms follow a series of recent fake active shooter calls across the country, including at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the University of South Carolina.
