CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - A Cairo man has been arrested an is facing charges in a vehicular homicide case from Dale County, Alabama.
Investigators with the Grady County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation (ABI) once a Cairo man was identified as the suspect in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of bicyclist, Troy Williams.
The suspect, 48-year-old Tony Adkins, was arrested on Friday, April 11 after being tracked to Thomasville, Ga. Officers with the Thomasville Police Department arrested Adkins without incident, and he was transported to the Grady County Detention Center where he remains pending his extradition to Alabama.
According to authorities, following the fatal collision, Adkins fled the scene and returned to Grady County, where he parked the tractor-trailer believed to have been involved in the incident in a rural area of the county.
Upon locating the vehicle, Grady County officials notified law enforcement partners in Alabama, prompting agents from the ABI and the Dale County Sheriff’s Office to fly to Cairo in order to continue the investigation.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has seized the tractor-trailer believed to be involved as part of the ongoing investigation.
