BEN HILL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone falsely claiming to be a sheriff’s office lieutenant.

Officials say someone identifying themselves as “Lieutenant Clark” has been calling residents from 229-258-9784.

The sheriff’s office says it does not have a Lieutenant Clark and will never call someone demanding m say they will not call asking for bond money for an inmate, even if the person has a loved one or friend who is incarcerated.

Anyone who receives a suspicious call claiming to be from the sheriff’s office should not send money or provide financial information.

Residents are encouraged to hang up and contact the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office directly at 229-426-5161 to verify the information.

The sheriff’s office is reminding residents to stay alert and trust their instincts when receiving unexpected calls.
