ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - City of Albany employees discovered a sanitary sewer overflow on Wednesday morning, March 25, at approximately 10:30 a.m., in a wooded area along the 1000 block of Evelyn Avenue.

Albany officials say the overflow was caused by a blockage in the sewer line. City crews quickly identified and cleared the blockage, preventing further issues.

The sewage remained contained within a low-lying area and did not enter any streams or waterways. Cleanup efforts are currently underway, with City personnel working to restore the affected site.

The overflow occurred in a vacant area with no homes or businesses nearby, and no drinking water systems were impacted.

City staff acted promptly to mitigate the situation, securing the area to prevent any additional impact. Officials confirmed that monitoring will continue, and follow-up actions will be taken as needed to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.
