MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga.— The reward now stands at $7,700 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in a deadly hit-and-run that killed a Mitchell County man in 2024.

The new reward total in the Amos Anderson case follows a $5,000 gift from an anonymous donor who wants to help the family find justice, a relative told WALB News 10.

Someone struck and killed 88-year-old Anderson in front of his home on Mount Olive Rd. on Sept. 20, 2024.

Authorities said Anderson was picking up trash along the stretch of road in front of his home when someone hit him. The crash impact threw Anderson into a ditch where he died.

Troopers believe Anderson’s killer struck him while traveling east, topping a hill in front of Anderson’s home as Anderson attempted to cross Mount Olive Rd.

After the crash, instead of calling for help, the driver responsible turned around, heading west.

A motorist passing by the scene later discovered Anderson’s body.

Evidence indicates the suspected vehicle to be a truck or SUV, possibly medium metallic gray color that likely had damage to the front passenger-side headlight area.

Anderson and his wife Mary Nell were married 68 years— and the day of his burial fell on their wedding anniversary.

Next month marks two years since Anderson’s death and his relatives say they need the community’s help to solve the case. They urge anyone with information to come forward by calling the Georgia State Patrol at 229-931-7000 or the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office at 229-336-2032.
