ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Phoebe is alerting the community about a phone scam involving con artists impersonating hospital representatives. According to Phoebe, scammers are “spoofing” the hospital’s main phone number in an attempt to trick people into revealing personal information over the phone.

In these calls, the number displayed on caller ID appears to be from Phoebe, and the callers claim to be Phoebe employees. However, hospital officials stress that Phoebe does not make unsolicited calls to random community members.

“If we do have a reason to call our patients, we may ask you to verify basic information like your name and date of birth,” a Phoebe spokesperson said. “But we will never ask for your Social Security number or personal financial details over the phone.”

Phoebe urges anyone receiving suspicious calls asking for sensitive information to hang up immediately. These callers are not legitimate representatives of Phoebe.

Hospital officials are encouraging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious calls to local law enforcement or to Phoebe directly.
