BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — Bryan Kohberger is set to face sentencing on Wednesday in the high-profile Idaho Four murder case, leaving many to speculate whether he will speak on Wednesday at the Ada County Courthouse.
President Trump has commented on the case, suggesting that the judge should compel Kohberger to explain what transpired during the early morning of November 2022. However, Kohberger retains the right to remain silent, and Judge Hippler cannot force him to testify.
Anne Emerson, a senior investigative reporter with the "Criminally Obsessed" podcast, expressed skepticism about Kohberger providing any revelations.
"Part of the terrifying part of this whole case is that we don't know where he's connected in his mind to this," Emerson said. "The truth is no, I don't think we're going to get what these victims' families deserve, some kind of answer as to why." Emmerson goes on to state that she would be surprised if Kohberger gives a reason for the murders.
With the gag order now lifted, Emerson noted that more details about the case and investigation might emerge from key figures, including law enforcement, the attorneys involved, and Kohberger's defense team.
"I know they don't want to say anything until they've gotten through this sentencing," she said. Emmerson adds there is a big concern over why the prosecution made a plea deal when they did and the reasoning behind it.
Details in the case could take months, if not years, to fully come to light. During the sentencing, the judge is expected to allow the victims and their families to deliver impact statements.
