UNADILLA, Ga. (WGXA) — Nine inmates were stabbed multiple times in a fight at Dooly State Prison, leaving one critically injured on Friday, according to Emergency Management Agency Director Don Williford.
Williford says around noon, first responders were dispatched to the prison due to reports of a fight that resulted in an inmate being stabbed.
When they arrived, additional crews were sent to the prison, as multiple inmates needed medical attention.
According to the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), about 11 inmates needed outside medical attention for injuries after an "altercation."
Williford confirmed that nine inmates were taken to the a local hospital after being stabbed multiple times, leaving one in critical condition. The critically injured inmate was driven to a hospital in Macon, while two additional inmates, suffering minor injuries, were airlifted.
