Description
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Second Harvest of South Georgia is keeping a close eye on the government shutdown, but so far, there has been no immediate impact on their operations.
Chief Programming Officer Eliza McCall says they aren’t seeing a spike in need just yet. But they are getting more calls and questions from people worried about what is to come.
She says the longer the shutdown lasts, the more likely it is to affect families and the food banks that support them.
“Inventory is solid, and it is holding our fairly well,” McCall said. “But if things were to go on for an extended period of time, then we will see impacts, or we would expect to see impacts with the commodities that are donated to us through the federal government. We don’t know what the future is gonna bring, but we stand ready to help. You know, we are prepared to help all of the communities that we serve.”
If you or someone you know needs food assistance now or in the near future, don’t wait to reach out. You can contact Second Harvest of South Georgia here.
