WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump convened a roundtable Wednesday with top cabinet members to discuss 'Antifa,' a movement he has labeled as a terrorist organization.
During the meeting, independent journalists from the Pacific Northwest shared their encounters with Antifa while covering protests.
Brandi Kruse, an independent journalist based in Seattle who has developed a large following through her political Podcast unDivided with Brandi Kruse, urged the federal government to take action.
"So we want the federal government to take as many cases as possible," Kruse said. "Look at the interstate travel between Portland and Seattle when it comes to these people committing violent acts. And hopefully in 3 and a half years they will be a shell of their former selves."
Kruse also talked about how she has recovered from what she called "TDS," or "Trump Derangement Syndrome."
"I'm living proof that you can recover from TDS. I had strong Trump Derangement Syndrome for probably eight years," said Kruse. "And by the way, it's much better to not have TDS. I'm happier. I'm healthier, more successful. I even think I got a little more attractive after I got rid of my Trump derangement. Yes."
Kruse went on to address the other reporters in the room covering the roundtable.
"Frankly, I could not care less what any of you [the media] have to say about this meeting... We're not here for you. I'm not here to convince any of you that Antifa is a real thing. Because if you have not come to that conclusion by now, you are never going to come to that conclusion because you don't want to see it."
Others in attendance included, Jonathan Choe, who self-described as an investigative reporter for Frontlines Turning Point USA and senior fellow at the Discovery Institute in Seattle, covering far-left extremism and the homeless drug crisis in America. He called on the Trump administration to look at Antifa's alleged ties to the homeless crisis, claiming that Antifa is "heavily embedded in the homeless and housing nonprofit sector."
Another Independent investigative journalist Katie Daviscourt also attended and recounted her experience of being injured during a protest at a Portland ICE facility.
"Black clad anarchist militants concealing their faces behind facial coverings have been assaulting reporters just for being able to cover their crimes," Daviscourt said. "Today I am sitting here with a black eye and a concussion after being violently hit in the face with a pole while reporting outside the ICE facility just this past week."
Despite the discussions, no evidence of an organized Antifa group traveling between Portland and Seattle was presented at the roundtable.
Antifa, short for anti-fascist, lacks a detailed organized group leadership structure, according to law enforcement.
The Trump administration declared Antifa as a terrorist organization in September.
On the White House website, they describe the group, "Antifa is a militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States Government, law enforcement authorities, and our system of law. It uses illegal means to organize and execute a campaign of violence and terrorism nationwide to accomplish these goals. This campaign involves coordinated efforts to obstruct enforcement of Federal laws through armed standoffs with law enforcement, organized riots, violent assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement officers, and routine doxing of and other threats against political figures and activists.
Trump heard from several speakers and members of his cabinet, including Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
