Description

LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to avoid non-essential travel if possible.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said they received reports of numerous vehicles sliding off the roadway.

If you must travel, the sheriff’s office gave the following tips:

  • Reduce speed significantly
  • Increase your following speed
  • Avoid sudden braking or acceleration
  • Turn on headlights if not on
  • Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle, including lights and windows
  • Monitor road conditions closely
  • Have an emergency kit in your vehicle
  • Be extra cautious on bridges and overpasses as they tend to freeze first
