GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A Grady County driver is now charged after videos captured the moment they plowed into the side of a home.

The incident happened Saturday on Ridge Road. In two videos shot at different angles, you can see the car suddenly drive into the area at high speeds before losing control and hitting the side of a brick house.

“I was in the house in bed, and my son Ricky came over and woke me up at 4:15 in the morning, and he said, ‘Mama, a car hit your house,’ and I bought had a heart attack, and I was just praising God he wasn’t hurt,” said Marilyn Pearson-Cox, the home owner.

Fortunately, no one—not even the driver was injured.

According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), the driver was driving at an excessive speed and failed to adjust to road conditions.

The 18-year-old driver is charged with driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving, and other pending charges.

“It was just an act of God that somebody wasn’t seriously injured,” said Grady County Sheriff Earl Prince.

The incident is sparking the conversation of a bigger issue that residents say they’ve been dealing with for years...Speeding.

In January alone, deputies issued 121 speeding tickets, 80 of those tickets were over 15 miles an hour.

The deadly consequences of speeding have become a reality for some Grady County neighbors like Joy Knop. She lost her son Levi Knop 6 years ago in a high-speed accident.

“That year, there were 1491 automobile wreck deaths, and I know for a fact his should not have been one. It was 100% preventable,” she said.

Now, she and so many other people are calling on drivers to slow down before a driver like this one *video of crash* ends up not so lucky.

“I was just praising God he wasn’t hurt,” Pearson-Cox said.

As deputies receive more complaints about speed-prone roads, they plan to increase patrolling and keep holding violators responsible.
