LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — As firefighters make progress in battling some of the wildfires raging across California, they are bracing for a new threat: increased winds that could exacerbate the situation.

The Napa Fire Department released new footage showing its firefighters working tirelessly to extinguish the Palisades Fire.

The fires have claimed 24 lives and scorched approximately 40,000 acres in the Greater Los Angeles area. While firefighters took advantage of calmer weather conditions Monday, concerns are mounting. The National Weather Service has issued a rare warning of a "particularly dangerous situation" due to expected extremely dry conditions and high winds. Despite the challenges, fire officials remain confident in their preparedness.

"The Eaton fire is now estimated to be 14,117 acres with 33% containment," said Chief Anthony Marrone of the L.A. County Fire Department. "We gained no acreage yesterday, which is a very good thing. We know that over 7,000 structures are damaged or destroyed, and we have 3,408 firefighting personnel assigned to the incident. Twenty-six percent of our damage inspections for dwellings have been completed."

The Palisades Fire, one of the most severe, has burned about 23,000 acres and is 14% contained as of the latest reports.

In a show of support, 45 firefighters from Las Vegas have joined the efforts in Los Angeles, working in two strike teams.

One team is assigned to the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, assisting residents in checking on their properties. The other team, initially assigned to the Palisades Fire, has been reassigned to a neighborhood in Brentwood, where they are providing structure protection.
