ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A couple with South Georgia ties has gone viral on social media for how they plan out their year in one day. Their video even caught the attention of BuzzFeed!

Since Kaylee and Colin Rocker got married in 2022, they’ve spent every New Year’s Day in a room, planning out their goals for the year ahead.

“We sort of sit down with, you know, sticky notes, whiteboard, poster board, whatever we can get our hands on that’s like physical and sort of write down,” said Colin. “I’ll go through this whole process that now I’d like to call RESET.”

The RESET process has four components:

First is Reflect, where you look back on the previous year and how you did with those goals.

The second step is Soar or Dream setting, where you set a long-term 10-year vision for what you want your life to look like with your spouse.

The third step is Establish. After you set your 10-year goal, you work backward to create smaller goals that will help you get to your main goal.

The final step is Track, where you check in with your spouse on a monthly basis and track each other’s progress. Their video caught the eyes of thousands of Americans, which was not something that Colin or Kaylee expected.

“It’s funny. A lot of the comments we’ve gotten online about it have. Like you know, it’s ‘you’re running your marriage like a business.’ And it sounds so formal. And you know, why does my relationship need board meetings, right? But for me that was kind of really the goal,” said Colin.

According to a study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, goal-oriented couples report 30% greater satisfaction in their relationships compared to those without shared goals. For Kaylee Rocker, that statistic holds true.

“Definitely effective, and it really is the accountability mixed with the look back that does it for me,” said Kaylee.
