ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - It wasn’t until 2021 that Juneteenth became a national holiday in the United States. The holiday is also known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day as it commemorates the end of slavery in America.
Many people are still being educated about it, and here’s something you might not have known: The original colors of Juneteenth are red, white and blue. Executive Director of SOWEGA Rising, Sherrell Byrd, explains how the Black community adopted the Pan-African flag, red, black and green.
