WASHINGTON (TNND) — Israel conducted a precise strike in Doha on Tuesday, "targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization," according to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Qatar condemned the attack, calling it "cowardly" and affirming that "it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior and the continuous tampering with the region’s security, nor any action targeting its security and sovereignty."

"For years, these members of the Hamas leadership have led the terrorist organization's operations, are directly responsible for the brutal October 7 massacre, and have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel," IDF said. "Prior to the strike, measures were taken in order to mitigate harm to civilians, including the use of precise munitions and additional intelligence."

The strikes come after the Israeli military issued evacuations for residents in Gaza City.

Netanyahu said Israel had demolished 50 high-rise buildings in the past two days, which it accused Hamas of using for military infrastructure.

The prime minister called the demolition of the high-rises “only the introduction, only the beginning of the main intensive operation — the ground incursion of our forces.”

First responders rescued two survivors and extricated two bodies from one of the demolished buildings on Tuesday afternoon, according to the civil defense, part of the Hamas-run Interior Ministry.

The civil defense said others remain trapped under the rubble and that rescuers had been unable to reach them due to a lack of equipment.

Ground operations within the city began a week ago after 60,000 reservists were called up for duty and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue the war until all of the hostages are returned and Hamas surrenders.

President Donald Trump issued his last warning to Hamas on Sunday as the U.S. put forward new ceasefire negotiations.

"This is my last warning, there will not be another one!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Hamas confirmed they received the Trump administration's plans and told CNN the organization “welcomes any move that helps efforts to stop the aggression against our people.”

There are an estimated 1 million Palestinians in the area of north Gaza around Gaza City, according to both the Israeli military and the United Nations, around half of Gaza's population of 2.1 million. As of Sept. 7, a coalition of humanitarian groups tracking movement in northern Gaza said they had tracked 50,000 movements of people fleeing south. A similar number were people moved within northern Gaza.

The United Nations humanitarian agency said many families can't evacuate even if they want to, because displacement sites are overcrowded and because it can cost more than $1,000 in transportation and other costs to move to southern Gaza, a prohibitive amount for many.

The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants abducted 251 people on Oct. 7, 2023, and killed some 1,200 people, mostly Israeli civilians. Forty-eight hostages are still inside Gaza, around 20 of them believed to be alive.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed at least 64,522 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not say how many were civilians or combatants. It says around half of those killed were women and children. Large parts of major cities have been completely destroyed and around 90% of the population of some 2 million Palestinians have been displaced.
