LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - A man was sentenced today, Sept. 8 after he decided to enter into a plea deal for the murder of his Little Caesars manager.

After a jury was selected on Monday, Sept. 8, the defense told the district attorney that Daquan Harris would enter into a plea deal.

Within hours, Judge W. James Sizemore, Jr. sentenced Harris to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

“To get to the bottom line with you, Mr. Harris, you just crossed the line,” Sizemore said. “This was deliberate. This was premeditated, and this was awful.”

Harris was charged with fatally shooting his boss, Joseph “Joey” Dorminey, a Little Caesars district manager, on the evening of May 3, 2024, as Dorminey was putting money in the store’s safe.

Harris faced seven charges including murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The state presented evidence against Harris for Judge Sizemore, including surveillance footage of the shooting where you see Harris shoot Dorminey in the back and take an envelope filled with money.

District Attorney Lewis Lamb said he is content that Harris got the full measure of justice he deserved.

“It was important to me for him to be sentenced to life without parole,” Lamb said. “I think that some crimes are such that you need to be sure that this person is never going to breathe a free breath, and that is what we accomplished.”

A group of almost 60 prospective jurors reported to the Lee County Superior Court Monday morning to be screened for potential service in a high-profile murder case headed to trial this week. Now, the selected jurors will not be needed.
