Description
MITCHELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Mitchell County School System says there will be an increased police presence on campuses today.
This comes after a “possible online threat” was made at the Mitchell County High School.
The school system says that they were made aware of this threat and are working closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Mitchell County Superintendent Dr. Veronica Brown says, “An online shooting threat was made and sent to students’ cell phones after school hours on September 8, 2025.I want to assure our students, parents, and staff that we are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness. Law enforcement was immediately contacted and is currently investigating the source of the threat. The safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We will continue to collaborate closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as they become available.”
The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office tells WALB that an online threat was made, but they do not believe it to be credible. This situation will continue to be monitored as students remain on campus. No arrest has been made.
