Description
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - As the manhunt for two remaining Orleans Parish escapees continues in its third week, investigators are reviewing new Instagram videos posted by one of the fugitives.
Antoine Massey, who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center on May 16 along with nine other inmates, appears in videos uploaded to the account “@_007chucky.”
The videos, widely circulated on social media, show Massey speaking directly to the camera, pleading his case and denying allegations related to his arrest and escape.
In one of the videos under review, Massey says, “I’m one of the ones that was let out of Orleans Parish jail where they said I escaped, right?”
In the video, Massey disputes reports that he threatened a jail maintenance worker in order to facilitate the breakout. Investigators previously said Massey threatened to “shank” Sterling Williams if he didn’t shut off water to the cell where inmates later removed a toilet and climbed through a wall to escape.
ORLEANS JAILBREAK
Massey claims the domestic abuse battery charge that kept him in jail was based on a false report from a jealous girlfriend. Massey holds up what he says is paperwork proving she was jumped by peers, not him.
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, who runs the Orleans Justice Center jail from which Massey escaped, issued a statement in response to the video encouraging Massey to turn himself in.
“If the individual depicted in the video is indeed Antoine Massey, we strongly urge him to come forward and turn himself in to the proper authorities,” Hutson said in the statement. “Cooperating with law enforcement is in his best interest and may help avoid additional charges. It is important that justice is served appropriately and that due process is followed.”
In the posted video clips, Massey also called out to public figures for help, including President Donald Trump and rappers Lil Wayne and Meek Mill.
He accuses the State of Louisiana of corruption, arguing he was being unfairly prosecuted and mistreated behind bars. Massey claims he was facing life in prison for charges he did not deserve and says his decision to leave jail was about escaping an unjust situation.
Massey and fellow escapee Derrick Groves are the last two inmates still on the run from the group of 10 who broke out of the jail in the early hours of May 16. Authorities have since recaptured eight of the escapees and arrested more than a dozen people accused of helping them.
The reward for information leading to Massey or Groves has now climbed to $50,000 per inmate, thanks to contributions from Crime Stoppers, the FBI, and ATF.
