ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - An additional case of the measles has been reported in Georgia, marking it the fifth total case in 2025, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health.

The person caught the measles, which is highly contagious, from a family member. They were reported in May as the fourth case in the state.

The health department said the person was unvaccinated. Their family member, who is also unvaccinated, got measles from traveling outside the country, the department said.

“Individuals who may have been exposed to either of these persons have been given the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine or antibodies to help reduce the risk of developing measles and are being monitored for symptoms,” the Georgia Department of Public Health said. “Currently, no new cases of measles have been reported outside of this family.”

In 2024, there was a total of six measles cases in Georgia.

The first measles case this year in Georgia was reported in metro Atlanta in late January.
