Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On Saturday, Jan. 25, Deerfield-Windsor is holding their Honors Scholarship Testing Day.
Any child entering 6th-11th grade, that does not already attend DWS, has a chance to sit for an exam that could lead to them attending the school for free.
“So, the testing requires three different components plus and essay. We have reading, math, general abilities, and then we also have an essay prompt so the student can give us a writing sample,” said Lauren Ray, Director of Admission at Deerfield-Windsor.
There will be two honors scholarships awarded after the exam, one going to a middle schooler, and the other going to a high schooler. Free tuition will be provided for the rest of the students' middle or high school term.
“I love teaching our honors scholarship recipients. They truly value their education and are so proud to be apart of this community,” said Jessica Carr, the school’s Spanish Department Chair.
To qualify for the exam, students must register online by Jan. 21.
There are other opportunities for your child to attend a private school at an affordable rate. The State Senate recently launched the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program.
Beginning fall of this year, eligible families can receive $6,500 per child to assist them in paying tuition at a select number of private schools.
“Education is expensive, so why would you not try and get it for every aspect of our child’s educational career,” continued Ray.
Students are eligible to apply for the Georgia Promise Scholarship if they are currently enrolled in a Georgia public school or entering kindergarten in the fall. Students must reside in specific zones where their public institution is underperforming. The student also must reside in Georgia for at least a year, excluding active-duty military families.
The Georgia Promise application portal will open March 1, and the full list of Georgia Promise eligible private schools will be released soon.
