TIFTON, Ga. (WALB) - Wrestling has found a home in South Georgia thanks to Kraken Pro Wrestling, a promotion that started with just 28 fans and now draws in crowds of more than 160, with their largest show topping 300.

Owner and wrestler Samuel Skaggs said the idea behind Kraken was to build something lasting for the Tifton community, a place where wrestling shows just pass through.

“It really makes me feel better about what we’re creating here,” Skaggs said. “Kraken is to provide something not only for ourselves, but for this community to continue to grow.”

The shows are family-friendly and affordable, something Skaggs said is important so that kids can have role models and be inspired to step into the ring themselves.

“They’re creating a magical moment,” Skaggs said. “Anybody that is able to shake hands, talk to a kid or a family and be that hero of the day... We’re helping create those moments.”

Fans said that’s exactly what’s happening.

Andrew Elder, a regular at the events, said he remembers one child who came prepared with five different signs to swap out for each of his favorite wrestlers.

“It’s really cool to see the fan interaction with the wrestlers,” Elder said. “It gives people something to look forward to once a month, and it’s affordable. You can bring a whole family for a good price and have a lot of fun.”

The next Pro Kraken Wrestling event is set for Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. at Chino and Letty’s Place in Tifton. The event is open to the public.
