LAKELAND, Ga. (WALB) - A Lanier County family is asking for the community’s help to find out what happened to their loved one after a shooting on Sunday morning.

“He is such a positive person. A person who has a lot of spirit, he’s always dancing and having fun. And we know he doesn’t go with anyone he doesn’t know so we were trying to figure out what happened why he was here and who would want to hurt him,” Karla Dickerson, victim’s niece, said.

The Foster family believes things took a turn for Terry Foster near Highway 159, off of Knights Academy Road.

“He was actually visiting some friends after an altercation he left the friend’s house on a moped and he was in the way back to my grandmother’s house and he actually got shot when he was on the way back home,” she said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading this investigation into what happened to Terry Foster and what led him to the ICU on Sunday, Dec. 29, hoping to bring closure to the Foster family.

“They said that he got enough strength to go to the closest neighbors house and those are the people that called 911 for him,” his niece said.

Dickerson made a post on social media earlier this week asking the community to help piece together what may have happened to Foster.

“I’m thankful for the community because people immediately started reaching out to send me text, dm’s, and messages to tell me what they knew because they knew the type of person he was,” Dickerson said.

But they said Foster has a long way to recovery as he remains in critical condition.

“He is making progress little by little but we are thankful that yesterday he opened his eyes,” she said.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at (912) 389-4103.
