Description

TIFT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Three people, a woman and two children, were killed in a Monday afternoon crash on GA 520, also known as US 82, in Tift County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the two-vehicle crash happened near mile marker 4 at around 12:12 p.m.

The investigation found that a 2023 Ram 2500 truck towing a trailer was headed east near mile marker 4 when it crossed the median and hit the left side of a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica that was headed west with its front.

GSP said that both vehicles then went off the north side of the highway.

The truck overturned, ejecting a 4-year-old passenger while it was overturning.

The truck came to a rest on its right side, according to GSP. The van came to rest facing east on the north shoulder of the highway.

GSP said the truck was being driven by 34-year-old Homer Tyson, of Leesburg.

An ambulance took the 4-year-old to Tift Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, GSP said.

GSP reported that 52-year-old Rebecca Baker, of Tifton, was driving the van. Additionally, four children — ages 2, 5, 7, and 10 — were inside.

Baker, the 5-year-old, and the 2-year-old were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, GSP said.

An ambulance took the 7-year-old to Tift Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 10-year-old was airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, with serious injuries, GSP said.

GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.
