NEW YORK (TNND) — Jurors could begin deliberations as soon as next week in Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sex trafficking trial after the defense stated on Tuesday that its case could last less than two days.
Attorney Marc Agnifilo told Judge Arun Subramanian about the short presentation time when asked for an estimate on the length of the defense case, according to The Associated Press.
The shorter time means Combs will likely not testify. Testimony from two of his former girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and a woman using the pseudonym "Jane," took up two of the trial's six weeks.
The 55-year-old music mogul has pleaded not guilty to a five-count indictment and faces a minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted on all charges. He was charged with sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, transportation for purposes of prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy.
Combs was arrested in September 2024, about roughly six months after federal authorities raided his homes in Los Angeles and Miami. He has been jailed in Brooklyn since his arrest and denied bail multiple times.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey said prosecutors would rest as early as Wednesday and no later than Friday morning.
The judge also chastised prosecutors and defense lawyers after discovering information about a closed court proceeding involving a juror last Friday made its way to the media.
He said he believed someone from the sealed court hearing violated the secrecy order and that in the future, he would hold Comey and Agnifilo responsible for any slipups. The judge added that violations of his orders could result in criminal contempt penalties “at the most extreme level.”
A juror was dismissed on Monday after he gave conflicting answers about where he lives, possibly indicating an agenda or wanting to stay on the jury for a purpose.
During the trial on Tuesday, prosecutors resumed showing jurors evidence of text messages, phone calls and hotel records to support charges that Combs oversaw a racketeering conspiracy that utilized his employees and associates and his stature in the hip-hop industry to help him control and abuse women.
Jane and Ventura testified about similar experiences where Combs used threats and monetary incentives to coerce them into frequent multi-day sex marathons where Combs watched, directed and sometimes filmed them engaging with male sex workers.
Prosecutors allege Combs used violence, threats, and a network of employees and associates to control and abuse women for two decades. His lawyers have told the jury in federal court in Manhattan that although there was domestic violence in his relationships, everything he did sexually was consensual.
