DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - Two members of law enforcement in Coffee County have been arrested.
On Friday night, current Douglas Police Officer Shelley Luna and former Nicholls Police Chief Jamie Merritt were arrested on misdemeanor criminal trespass (family violence) charges, according to the Douglas Police Department. Merritt also previously served as a Coffee County deputy.
An official confirmed that Luna and Merritt had previously dated one another, but the nature of their current relationship has not been confirmed.
Luna has been placed on administrative leave with pay while an internal investigation is underway.
Both are currently in the Coffee County Jail.
Family violence charges relate to a suspect living in the same residence. It does not confirm that there is a romantic relationship involved.
