COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A bomb threat at the Ohio Statehouse made for a busy scene in downtown Columbus on Monday morning.
Police K9 patrols and the Columbus Fire Department were called to the Statehouse before 9 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Ray Santiago confirmed to ABC 6 at about 11:30 a.m.
Santiago said the bomb threat was sent via email and was immediately forwarded to the patrol team. It was deemed not credible, he said.
"Troopers, along with fellow safety service partners and explosive-detecting K9s, conducted a thorough search of the facility and determined it was safe," Santiago said. "The incident remains under investigation."
Columbus Fire had confirmed to ABC 6 at about 10:45 a.m. that crews "responded and are still there."
ABC 6 confirmed that the parking garages that had been closed had re-opened at about 11 a.m.
ABC 6's Kate Siefert reported that she had spoken to a few people outside the Statehouse who said they saw "a lot" of K9s sniffing around the building.
A group of school kids and teachers was inside the building between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. but told ABC 6 that they didn't see anything unusual.
The incident is still under investigation, Santiago said.
No other information was immediately available.
