Description
DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) posted a statement Monday, Feb. 16, on Facebook alerting residents of a fraudulent telephone solicitation scheme targeting local citizens.
Residents have reported receiving calls from a woman claiming to represent the sheriff’s office. The caller, using the name “Lisa,” is reportedly attempting to sell magnets and solicit money on behalf of law enforcement.
DCSO wants residents to know:
- The sheriff’s office never solicits money by telephone
- The department does not associate with any organizations that solicit money by phone
- Any unsolicited calls requesting money should be treated with suspicion
If you receive a call from someone you do not know soliciting money—regardless of the organization they claim to represent—hang up immediately. Do not provide personal information, account details or any payment information.
If you have information about this scam or have been contacted by the fraudulent caller, officials say to contact the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office at 229-400-8001.
