SAN ANTONIO - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has released dash cam footage showing a suspect who was allegedly evading arrest get struck by a deputy cruiser vehicle.

According to BCSO, at approximately 2:30 am July 16, BCSO Patrol Deputy Steven Antu was driving in his marked patrol unit East on Culebra Road in West Bexar County. He spotted a front passenger, identified as Ivan Castillo, in a Silver Toyota Camry displaying a firearm out of the vehicle's window.

After seeing the firearm, Deputy Antu turned around and pulled in behind the Silver Camry which came to a stop at the intersection of Culebra Road and Alamo Parkway. While at the stop light, Castillo waved the firearm out of the window again while a vehicle was in the lane next to them. The Camry then turned onto Alamo Parkway from Culebra Road traveling towards a residential area. Before entering the neighborhood, Deputy Antu radioed for back-up while continuing to follow the vehicle.

Deputy Antu attempted to stop the vehicle on Palmetto Way but the driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit. The Camry finally came to a stop on the 6500 block of Donley CV and Castillo immediately exited the vehicle and dropped the firearm on the ground. Castillo quickly picked up the firearm and fled on foot.

Deputy Antu pursued Castillo in his patrol car. During the pursuit, Castillo crossed in front of Deputy Antu's vehicle and was struck.

BCSO said Castillo was detained and received medical treatment for serious injuries by first-responders. The firearm was found to be loaded with an extended magazine.

Castillo was discharged from the hospital days after the incident and charged with evading arrest. The incident is still under investigation and Deputy Antu was placed on administrative leave before being placed on administrative duty while the investigation is pending.
